Durango, Colorado
The town was organized in September 1881 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG) to serve the San Juan mining district. The city is named after Durango, Mexico, which was named after Durango, Spain. The word Durango originates from the Basque word "urango" meaning "water town".
Pagosa Springs, Colorado
The town is named for the sulfur springs located there, including the world's deepest geothermal hot spring. The mineral-rich water continues to be celebrated for its therapeutic powers. Farmington was settled by the Anasazi in the 7th Century. The area includes the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness, once a riverine delta that lay just to the west of the shore of an ancient sea which covered much of New Mexico 70 million years ago.

Shiprock (Navajo: Tsé Bit a í, "rock with wings") is a monadnock rising nearly 1,583 ft (482.5 m) above the high-desert plain of the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, New Mexico. Its peak elevation is 7,177 ft above sea level.
